Plays

In the tabs you will find the details of my current ouvrè.

These plays range in genre from comedy to farce to satire to social commentary and so on. I do not want to be coralled in to a specific genre, though I do prefer writing for comedy; mostly due to the freedom I have with them. However, all stories must be told so if a story is about desperate rich folk or domestic abuse, the story will be executed with the appropriate circumstances.

Also, I want anyone thinking about working with me to know that in my existing plays, a lot of my characters can be played any gender. Some characters may be locked in to something, but I see no reason why, if possible, a female character cannot pick up a male character - it is much easier to change a few gender specific pro-nouns than recast.

I absolutely believe in characters being accessible by all, so if there is no specific reason, why not play about? This is theatre, we're allowed to experiment! Just like scientists, but without the PhD's.

If you see a play that catches your interest but the casting doesn't seem to fit what you have in mind, let me know and we can discuss alterations. I am proud of my work, but I am never precious about it. Let's see how a collaboration can improve it!

Similarly, ethnicity is not a specification in my characters. Sometimes, a certain ethnicity may (and I hate myself for saying this) 'suit' a character more, but as I said before, there's always room for experimentation. Most characters can one ethnicity in one cast, then another for the next cast. As long as the actor playing the character lifts the words of the page in their own unique way, I do not care what colour or creed is connected to them.

Again, if a character seems to be locked to a specific ethnicity (such as Charles in The Show Must Go wrong) the reason for this can be altered usually by turning the reason upside down. In this case, there is a (non-racist) joke in which the colour of Charles' skin is relevant, however, if Charles is played by someone which makes the joke non-sensical, we simply change the joke. Honestly, I would much rather delete or edit a few lines than cancel the possibility of a great actor playing a role.
